Best Gay Bed & Breakfast in Hawaii - Perfect location

Gay Hawaii Guest House - Hawaii Lalala is in the perfect location on the Kalapana coast. Monday - go to gay day at Kehena Beach (we swam with dolphins there), Wednesday walk to the festival at Uncle Robert's Awa Bar with live Hawaiian music, hot food vendors, Hawaiian arts and crafts, lots of attractive men. Saturday - naked volleyball, Sunday - ecstatic dance, you can do yoga on the beach or in classes almost every day. Walk the amazing lava fields. Active lava is best seen from the east side of the island and in Volcano National Park nearby. The exotic orchids, plants and flowers at the Botanical gardens are not to be missed. Very comfortable rooms at Gay Hawaii Guest House and loved the outdoor shower. We made delicious, we loved making smoothies with organic fruits right from the trees and cooking some amazing meals with ingredients we found at the farmers markets. The Tantra Retreat Hawaii for Men was hosted by Hawaii Lalala Guest House. The staff were very helpful in directing us to local gay parties and gay friendly tours and adventures. Kalapana, Hawaii is nature at it's exotic best. Having cell phone service and at Gay Hawaii Guest House was important for us. (Many places in the area do not have cell service). Highly recommend Hawaii Lalala Gay Hawaii Guest House for an awesome gay vacation in Hawaii.

Maison de campagne: Puna, Hawaii gay bed and breakfast

The five-star rating is easily attributed to the value, friendliness and seclusion offered by the gay owned-and-operated Gay Hawaii B&B guesthouse on Ala Iki Road in Kalapana, HI. After a few years in Honolulu, you get the impression that 'getting away from it all' is not so easily done in a state that is a 5-hour flight from the mainland. The Puna region of the Big Island of Hawai'i, however, provides an antidote to the harried hordes of cities like Honolulu, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, or Portland. If it were in France, Puna would be the place for your "maison de campagne" (country home) as it has all the qualities required: relatively easy access from city life, a totally bucolic setting, and locals with an unusual accent. For the Island-based, Hilo is a quick flight from anywhere; roughly 40 minutes from Honolulu. For those on the mainland, the non-stops from LA and San Francisco are ideal, and Kalapana is 40 minutes away form the Hilo airport. You'll find a clean guesthouse with all the amenities you need for a great getaway. Four rooms, all seemingly underpriced ($75-$125—in Hawaii), make for a space that never feels overcrowded—there's more room here than you'd expect to find in Fire Island or Provincetown. Indeed, Puna is rural and unlike most gay meccas, has no huge nearby metropolis with an overwhelming stream of partiers. The Hale Lalala Gay Hawaii Guest House is a refuge for those who want to be submerged in nature or are seeking a more serene setting for fun in the sun. Another delightful bonus: the guesthouse, the neighborhood, the ocean front property that leads from the guesthouse to the (moonscape) lava flows, and the nearby black-sand beach are all clothing optional. This is not your average rural community. Showers seem to be mostly outdoors in Puna - and the guesthouse has several amazing outdoor showers, (one of which comes out of a huge mango tree!). Of course the B&B has indoor showers, if for some unknown reason, you’d rather shower indoors. The kitchen is well stocked with healthy breakfast foods: organic, free-range eggs are delivered fresh weekly by a local gay farmer, the "Egg Man," bread is locally made, and almost all of the organic fruit is grown on guesthouse property. There's coffee and tea for the caffeinated and decaffeinated among us, and a huge lanai off the kitchen for al fresco dining, sunbathing, and stargazing. The kitchen has abundant cookware if you like to prepare homemade meals. Nearby farmers’ markets have an abundance of locally grown organic vegetables and exotic fruits. And there are a variety of very good restaurants in nearby historic Pahoa town. For the weary traveler, for those who want to see what Hawaii is like beyond the beaches of Oahu and Maui, and for those who want to experience something akin to a gay (or at least straight-friendly) countryside, Puna is the perfect answer. Most of the homes in Kalapana/Puna community are gay owned. The local gay community is active with many events and parties to which visitors are invited and welcomed. And the guesthouses on Ala Iki Road make a great home base for exploring a unique country gayborhood.

Highgly recommend Gay Hawaii B&B & Kalapana, Hawaii

Very comfortable, clean, and great value! The Kalapana area is like 'real' Hawaii. Wed and Fri nights at Uncle's Awa Bar are amazing. Several hundred people, live music (including Hawaiian slack key), local food vendors, brewed Kambucha (try the Lavander Elderberry). Hot food varieties from Thai, vegan, BBQ ribs, wood fire pizza, local baked goods, banana pie, green papaya salad. Incredible selection. Very festival like atmosphere. Beer, wine, jello shooters, and Awa (muscle relaxant from pounded plant root) available. Try the Awa. Not fermented and doesn't make you 'drunk' but relaxes your muscles. Hard to describe, but a must do experience. Walk from Gay Hawaii B&B (parking is scarce and some parking is on the lava flow which covered the bay in 1991). The lava wasn't flowing, but locals said that when it is flowing down the hillside and into the ocean you can see the red glow from Gay Hawaii B&B. Will definitely come back to see the lava sometime. Loved the free wifi and having cell phone service at Gay Hawaii B&B. (Many places in the area do NOT have cell service). Kehena Beach with clothing optional sunning and dolphins, the warm ponds, and the painted church which is walking distance from GHBB, were all highlights. And the fresh organic avocados, lemons, and lilikoi from the property had amazing flavor even for someone like me who isn't particularly a health nut. Clean air, fresh organic fruit, Hawaii culture & music, clean, comfortable bed, great outdoor shower, and the most amazing warm water massage (AquaNirvana). Will definitely be back to Gay Hawaii B&B!!!

Great Place to Relax

It was a nice and clean rental house. If you want a place to hear lots of chirpin (whatevers) put you to sleep after heading up to the night I had fun and you will too. The owner goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. He even patched me up with bandages on my last day there! (Little accident with a rock) The other review is very accurate and more detailed but I would say this is a very nice place to stay, I went for 9 days!
